Fracture of the outlet strut of a Bjork-Shiley mitral prosthesis: emergency operation with survival

A case is presented in which the outlet strut of a Bjork-Shiley mitral prosthesis (convexo-concave, 60 degree orifice opening) fractured 10 months postoperatively. Emergency reoperation was successful.
