RETRACTION

Venovenous modified ultrafiltration after cardiopulmonary bypass in children: A prospective randomized study

Hani A Hennein, MD

Former Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, Long Island Jewish Medical Center

To the Editor:

On behalf of my coauthors I must take the difficult step of requesting retraction of the article referenced below.Go 1 Shortly after leaving the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and immediately after appearance of the article in the Journal, it was brought to my attention that certain procedural irregularities had occurred during the conduct of the study. These included failure to secure proper institutional review board approval and failure to uniformly obtain informed consent. A subsequent inquiry and investigation into the matter confirmed these findings. As a testament to the importance of maintaining the highest ethical and scientific standards in the publication of scientific material, I must now, on behalf of all my coauthors, withdraw this study as a matter of ethical propriety.

I deeply regret the position in which the editorial staff of the Journal has been placed as a consequence of these developments, and I apologize to its readers for any inconvenience that these actions may have caused.
